Sixty-three point seven two percent (63.72%): that was the recycling rate in the municipality of Garnich in 2021. This
means that a large portion of the waste produced is sorted separately and can be kept
in the cycle (reused or recycled).
QUARTERLY FIGURE – Q4 2022
Seventy-eight point forty-one percent (78.41%) of households in Garnich were enrolled in the organic waste program (“
Biotonne”) by the end of 2022—more than 10% higher than ten years ago.
Biowaste is currently transported by the association to the composting facility
in Kehlen, where it is partially converted into energy, then reintegrated into the biological cycle
and turned into compost.

Percent: that was the final result of the Klimapakt audit for the municipality of Garnich in 2023
(conducted in January 2024). The municipality thus obtained a silver “65+ certification.”
Since the 76% score already exceeds the minimum threshold for the Klimapakt Gold certification, the
municipal council decided to request an official Gold audit in the summer of 2025—and, hopefully, to
pass it!!!
QUARTERLY FIGURE – Q1 2024
In 2023, each resident of Garnich consumed an average of
liters of drinking water per day. This is significantly lower than the national average target of 120 l per
resident per day—and already below the stricter target set by the government starting in 2025,
namely 100 l/resident/day.
This is already a positive figure – given that drinking water resources are tending to decline, it
would be desirable for this trend to continue and for the residents of Garnich
to continue using water sparingly!!!
QUARTERLY FIGURE – Q2 2024
Kilowatt-hours of solar power were generated in 2023 in the area of
Garnich. A large portion comes from private single-family homes, but there are
also small and larger-scale installations on public buildings. There is
even a citizen-owned cooperative on the SES buildings in Rehbierg (200 kWp), which
produces what could be called “citizen-generated electricity.”
The trend is on the rise—the residents of Garnich are actively participating in the energy transition
, with many households still wishing to install their own photovoltaic system
.

Public charging stations for electric cars were available in 2024 in the
municipality of Garnich: a dual “Chargy” station, installed at the government’s initiative,

Garnich.
Additional charging stations are currently being planned, notably near the “
”
“Kinoler” in Kahler and the “Spillschoul” in Dahlem (in their respective parking lots).

areas: “Energy-efficient renovation and energy and natural resource savings
”, “Sustainable construction”, “Renewable energy & rainwater harvesting” and
“Heating”. Starting in mid-2025, measures in the area of “Mobility”
will also be added.
QUARTERLY FIGURE – Q1 2025
Percent: that is the electrification rate of the municipal vehicle fleet in the town of
Garnich by the end of 2024 (including passenger cars and light trucks).
We are therefore on the right track toward fully electrifying the municipal vehicle fleet
by 2040 (the goal for municipalities certified as “Klimapakt Gold” and
applicants). However, there is still significant room for improvement!
QUARTERLY FIGURE – Q2 2025
