Citizen Participation – Your Digital Contribution to Climate Protection in Garnich

An important factor in developing new concrete measures for climate protection and adaptation to climate change at the local level is the public’s opinion. After all, this concerns the quality of life for each and every one of us and the prospects for future generations in the municipality of Garnich.

That is why we are offering you various ways to get involved online in local climate action and climate change adaptation—in a simple, quick, and practical way, with no prior technical knowledge required. You can share your suggestions and ideas that the municipality could implement, or propose your own projects that you’d like to initiate—or even carry out yourself. Of course, we also welcome feedback and suggestions for improvement regarding the concepts and measures already developed and implemented by the Garnich Climate Team.

We have identified a few key areas where our climate team is already active. You can also submit your idea under “Other” if our suggestions don’t apply.

Here are a few examples of ideas that have already been considered:

Adaptation to climate change (better flood protection, more shaded areas in villages, drinking fountains in public squares, better protection against heavy rains, etc.)
Resources (waste sorting in public spaces, organizing repair cafés, lending services, organizing “green” events such as the National Day celebrations in 2024 and 2025, etc.)
Digitalization (more online services, digital invoices, e-Reider, expansion of the municipal website to include a participatory platform, etc.)
Energy (installation of solar panels on municipal buildings, construction of wind turbines, promotion of community-owned energy cooperatives, transition to renewable energy, support for residents in the energy transition, etc.)
Mobility (creation of bike lanes, improved signage, safe pedestrian paths, a connection between Dahlem and Garnich, etc.)
Green spaces and water (more green spaces, insect hotels, less
paving, water conservation, restoration of the Mamer River, etc.)
Communication (development of the municipal website, interactive participatory tools, informational events for residents, meetings on solar power and the energy transition, etc.)
