The town enjoys a convenient location in terms of transportation and is very well connected to the national and regional highway networks via several major highways.

Parking and Electric Vehicles

The various municipal facilities, particularly in the main village of Garnich, are easily accessible. For those arriving by car, ample parking is available at each location.

More than 700 public charging stations are available to users of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in Luxembourg, some of which are also located in the municipality (parking lot of the new technical services department).

Traffic calming

Municipal streets, with the exception of national highways, are not used solely for traffic. They are residential in nature, meaning they are not reserved exclusively for cars but must also provide a living space while maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in residential areas. Safety considerations are also important.

To put these principles into practice, the municipality has developed a “30 km/h policy for residential streets” that applies to all municipal streets.

A partial redesign of the main street, near the school, is currently being planned and will be implemented soon. Indeed, the slower the speed, the shorter the braking distance, and the lower the risk of accidents.

The municipality has also installed educational speed cameras. Compliance with speed limits is a first step toward ensuring the safety of pedestrians and cyclists on major roads. The data collected helps identify speeding violations and is regularly forwarded to the police for action. Meanwhile, several fixed speed signs equipped with data loggers have been installed throughout the municipality, and the monthly results are reported to the relevant police department.

Sharing is caring: new mobility concepts for people

A key factor in the mobility transition is the growth of sharing services. In addition to traditional car-sharing clubs, automakers have also adopted sharing as a business model. But sharing isn’t limited to cars: electric bicycles and scooters are also used in sharing models.
