Plants improve quality of life, purify the air, reduce noise, and lower temperatures in urban areas. When an interior courtyard isn’t available, it’s often possible to green the facade or the roof.

Green roofs

  • Water storage and thermal regulation: Green roofs retain up to 90% of rainwater and release it gradually through evaporation. This helps relieve the burden on urban drainage systems, especially during heavy rains.
  • Biodiversity: Green roofs provide habitat for plants and animals in urban areas. Intensively vegetated roofs can be used as gardens. Extensive roofs play a key role in maintaining ecological balance for the protection of nature and species.
  • Quality of life and comfort: Green roofs provide spaces for relaxation even in the heart of the city. They help regulate the temperature of the rooms below: in summer, they cool the space through evaporation; in winter, they provide insulation and reduce heating costs.
  • Sustainability: The plant substrate protects the roof from temperature fluctuations, hail, and corrosive water. The roots help filter rainwater and break down certain pollutants.
  • CO₂ reduction: 1 m² of an extensive green roof can absorb up to 1.2 kg of CO₂ per year.

Green facades

  • Local climate: Green walls provide shade for the building facade and evaporate water, acting as a natural air conditioner. The more green buildings there are, the greater the impact on the microclimate.
  • Air quality: Dense foliage traps dust and pollutants, produces oxygen, and absorbs CO₂.
  • Insulation and comfort: Evergreen plants can provide insulation in the winter and help reduce heating costs. In the summer, they protect walls from overheating.
  • Protection and durability: A well-designed green roof protects the facade from driving rain and UV rays, thereby extending its lifespan.
  • Noise reduction: Green walls absorb sound and help reduce urban noise.
  • Biodiversity and aesthetics: They provide habitats for wildlife and enhance the appearance of buildings, making public spaces more attractive and pleasant.
