Intermodality
Residents should be able to get around the town without a car, depending on their needs. Thanks to the expansion of public transportation services, which seamlessly connect to the regional and national public transit systems, access to the town must be guaranteed at all times.
Since the municipality is not connected to Luxembourg’s rail network, connections to neighboring municipalities and regions are largely provided by bus. In addition, newer forms of transportation, such as car-sharing and on-demand transport systems, are already partially in place or in the planning stages.
In addition to buses, cycling and walking also play an important role, particularly when it comes to covering the final few meters between, for example, the bus stop and the front door. The goal is a car-free door-to-door journey—a vision of climate-friendly transportation planning. In the region, the final leg between the stop and home is often still a hurdle, but various solutions have already proven effective.
One approach is to promote cycling. In addition to high-quality bike paths, there is also a need for safe and welcoming bike parking facilities, as well as easier options for bringing bikes on buses. Shuttle services or local buses connecting neighborhoods within the municipality, as well as to neighboring municipalities or regional centers, can also be part of the solution.
